Ingredients
1) 0.75 cup sugar
2) 3 tablespoons cornstarch
3) 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
4) 3 cups half-and-half, light cream, or milk
5) 1 tablespoon butter
6) 2 teaspoons vanilla
7) 0.25 teaspoon salt
8) 1 cup bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped
9) Whipped cream (optional)
10) Unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)
Steps
1) In a large saucepan combine sugar, cornstarch, and cocoa powder. Whisk in half-and-half.
2) Slowly stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
3) Stir 2 minutes more.
4) Remove from heat.
5) Stir in butter, vanilla, and salt. Stir in chocolate until melted.
6) Pour into 8 individual serving bowls and cover surface with plastic wrap. Chill up to 24 hours.
7) If desired, top with whipped cream and additional cocoa powder.
